Beam bridges with these strange fence-like guardrails were built in Michigan in the early late 1930s and early 1940s. This bridge fits into that picture perfectly, with the 1940 construction date that is given by the Michigan historic bridge inventory. This bridge is a good, complete example of this style of bridge. It retains original guardrails, with no modern guardrails added. Plaques are also present on the bridge.

St. Clair County Road Commission repainted this structure in 2006. It is good to see that with at least some bridges, the county is choosing to maintain these structures rather than waste money and history demolishing them. They did not however repaint the railings, which is unfortunate.
