View Biography For Leif Sverdrup

This bridge is a very late example of its type, having been completed in 1967. As a late truss bridge, it displays a lack of rivets, and use of welded built-up beams, bolted connections, and a complete lack of v-lacing and lattice in built-up members. Visually, this suspended deck truss bridge's truss arrangement produced a shallow rise above the deck, giving it a less arch-like appearance than other suspended deck truss bridges. B.F. Diamond Construction Company of Savannah, Georgia was the substructure contractor while Allied Structural Steel Company of Chicago, Illinois was the superstructure contractor. The Historic Bridge Inventory noted that this bridge's span was the longest among highway bridges in Florida.
