This bridge is one of four rare Scherzer rolling lift bascule

bascule bridges in Joliet. The bridge retains good historic integrity. The bridge features a builder plaque crediting the Mississippi Valley Structural Steel Company with building the bridge. The bridge was likely designed by the Scherzer
Rolling Lift Bridge Company as the other bridges in the city were.
