This bridge is an example of a state-designed metal truss bridge in Maine dating to the 1950s... an extremely late example. Maine apparently built a number of truss bridges in the 1950s. This is unusual since most states no longer built truss bridges at this time, particularly for shorter crossings like this one. The bridge makes an interesting comparison to the older state-designed truss bridges from the 1930s. This bridge has less complexity... more rolled beams, less built-up beams, and simpler bracing design. However, at the same time, it continues to follow some of the same details including Warren truss and the addition of a horizontal member running through the middle of the center truss panels.
This bridge sits on abutments that are part stone and part concrete. The stone portions may originally be from a previous bridge.
