Bridge Documentation

This massive bridge is noted for its very long 500 foot main span, 500 foot between center of piers and 498 foot between center of truss pins. It also is noted for its unusual design. The main span was designed with the ability to have an upper deck added at a later date. However, this upper deck was never added. The bridge was also designed with a width that would allow for double track, but it only ever served a single track. As such, the main span of this bridge has only served at a quarter of its potential capacity. Some sources indicate this bridge was built in 1893, but an article found by HistoricBridges.org and further research assistance from Melissa Brand-Welch confirmed that the bridge was in fact built in 1903.
