Bridge Documentation

This very early rivet connected truss built by an important bridge builder was one of the most significant historic bridges in the region.

The bridge has been reported on Bridgehunter.com as being demolished but not replaced in 2019, in other words, demolition for absolutely no reason, a typical example of the standard Pennsylvania approach to historic bridges. Assuming the reports are accurate, this is very disappointing if not surprising. This bridge should absolutely have been left standing for pedestrian use only, or even closed off completely. Demolition was a complete waste of money and history, and a major loss in a region with few surviving historic bridges. The demolition of bridges like this is exactly why Pennsylvania has a poor reputation when it comes to historic bridge preservation.
