This bridge is an excellent example of a bridge built by the Luten Bridge Company of York, Pennsylvania. For this reason, it is assumed that this bridge uses the patented Luten system of reinforcing. Luten Bridge Company of York, Pennsylvania was not directly owned or affiliated with famous concrete bridge engineer Daniel Luten or his National Bridge Company of Indianapolis, Indiana. Rather, Luten Bridge Company of York, Pennsylvania was one of several bridge independent companies that formed across the country to provide construction services for patented Luten arch bridges. The local company would have to deal with the National Bridge Company, which held the patent rights, to acquire permission to use the patented technology.

The River Road Bridge has excellent historic integrity with no significant alterations noted.

This bridge is tagged with the following special condition(s): Luten
