This bridge is similar to the Genesee Street Bridge. Another, right in Augusta, is on Augusta Drive. This M-96 bridge has a pier supporting it in the middle, unlike these other two bridges. This bridge has the appearance of a tiny, single span curved chord through girder bridge. These girders do not help to support the bridge, rather, they are acting as railings with the curves and detailing added for beauty. The bridge is actually a t-beam bridge. Michigan engineers apparently wanted to continue the architectural expression seen on the curved chord through girder bridges in their t-beam bridge designs.
