Passing over Big Beaver Road, this bridge separates the railroad grade from one of the busier roads in the area. This historic bridge is a the rail-over-road version example of grade separations that were built as part of the giant railroad realignment project discussed on the Derby Street Bridge page. This bridge, like Derby Street, was most likely built around 1930. The rail-over-road bridges that were built look quite different from the road-over-rail bridges. The supports on the Big Beaver Overpass have an attractive arch shape to them. The railings have outlined rectangle shapes on the panels, and inset rectangles on the guardrail posts and on the beams. The railings are un-detailed and plain on the inside (railroad grade side). This bridge is skewed, a fact that is quite apparent as one drives under the bridge.
