The Churchill Road Bridge is an unusual bridge because of its railing design. It is similar to bridges like the one seen on Fisher Road in St. Clair County. However with the Churchill Road Bridge, there are no balustrades and instead a solid concrete design is seen. With a 1929 construction date, the design seen on Fisher Road had already been in use as seen on the 1927 Center Road Bridge. It is unclear why the railing design is different with this bridge. If it is the result of an alteration, it is an old one, since all the concrete looks old. There is also no alteration date listed in the national bridge inventory, but often alterations are not listed. The bridge crosses the Grand River, which is Michigan's longest river. It runs from extreme southern Jackson County a bit west of US-127, under a half mile short of being in Hillsdale County, all the way to Grand Haven over in West Michigan.
