This is among the longest of the concrete bowstring through arch bridges, often called rainbow arch bridges, in Ontario. This breathtaking seven span structure isn't even the longest... in Caledonia there is a nine span example, also over Grand River! The five span Bridgeport Bridge, also in Kitchener is another long one. Rainbow arch bridges are among the most beautiful of concrete bridges and they are enjoyable to view and cross as well. This magnificent bridge is also the oldest of its type in Waterloo Region, with a 1926 construction date, and its historic integrity is intact. The bridge was recently restored and an informative sign was even put up describing the history of the bridge. Waterloo Region has been a leader in Ontario in conducting historic bridge inventories and following through with preservation of the region's historic structures. This structure's preservation is an example of those efforts.
This bridge was rated as Waterloo Region's most important historic bridge under the Ontario Heritage Bridge rating system.
