This bridge looks like a tiny (and very wide) concrete curved chord through girder bridge, but is in fact a t-beam bridge. Nevertheless, this bridge was designed to have the appearance of a tiny curved chord through girder bridge. It also has some design qualities seen in the standard concrete girder plan that Michigan used, such as the Pointe Drive Bridge. The Genesee Street Bridge is, as a result, a historic bridge that was built with attention paid to aesthetic quality. Having concrete girders/railings that have inset rectangles and a curved arch shape in the middle are more attractive than a plain piece of concrete.

Similar bridges exist in Augusta, MI including the M-96 Bridge
