35th Street Pedestrian Bridge
| Pedestrian Walkway Over Railroad (Canadian National, Southshore, and Metra Railroad) | Chicago: Cook County, Illinois | Metal Riveted Pratt Through Truss, Stationary | 0 By: Unknown |
This bridge is perhaps not the most attractive truss bridge, but it offers more detail than the later bridges of this style which would be welded. Instead, this bridge offers a look at how pedestrian overpasses were designed in a period where hot metal riveting was still in use. The majority of this bridge's beams are riveted angles.
Historians may also be interested to note that the Stephen Douglas Tomb and Memorial (Stephen Douglas, of the Lincoln-Douglas Debates) is next to this bridge. You can also get elevation views of this bridge from the memorial grounds.
