Some people may recognize this bridge as the bridge that was made famous when it made an appearance in the Blues Brothers movie.
This is one of the later examples of this unique bascule bridge design that features curved pony trusses with riveted connections. The bridge was constructed in 1958. This bridge still operates for boats and is a fairly large and thus impressive structure. This bridge is a wide six lane structure. The bridge tower and abutments are plain and unimpressive, most likely because this is one of the later bridges and bridge aesthetics was continuing on its steady downhill run.
