This bridge features the earliest of the "pony truss" bascule designs seen in Chicago, which includes a less streamlined appearance, and a more "clunky" look to the truss design. Although among the oldest of the Calumet River bascule bridges, this bridge is also among the busiest of the bridges, as I found plenty of traffic here during my visit. I found a Cambria steel stamp on the bridge, revealing that at least some of the steel on the bridge was fabricated by Cambria steel mills. The bridge tender houses are unimpressive, which is characteristic of the older Chicago bascule bridges. Fortunately the interesting and older superstructure of the bridge itself makes up for this.
