With a 1960 construction date this is one of the newest of Chicago's bascule bridges, and barely worthy of being considered historic. It continues the combination deck-pony truss design that had been in use in Chicago for many years. I didn't include the handful of Chicago bascule bridges that had a construction date that was newer than 1965. In the downtown and near-downtown area, these included Columbus Drive, Randolph Street, and 18th Street.
When I visited in August 2006, this bridge was undergoing some renovations which included work on the sidewalks, and replacing the pedestrian railings.
