Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal |
This bridge was built in 1898, and is one of a number of swing railroad bridges built on the Chicago and Sanitary Ship Canal during a relatively short period of time. The bridge does not appear to operate any more. Some sections of the canal have had the requirement to have movable bridges eliminated, so a number of movable bridges on the canal do not open any more. This bridge is a pin connected structure, and features v-lacing and lattice on various places on the bridge, which greatly adds to the beauty of the structure.
