This beautiful truss bridge is similar in design and construction date to the nearby Calumet Sag Channel Bridge. Although the listed total length of this bridge is longer than the Cal-Sag bridge, that is only because it doesn't have as many approach spans. This structure's main span of interest, the through truss span, is actually smaller. As a result the design is not as elaborate. The bridge's truss configuration is a Parker truss, which is like the Pennsylvania truss configuration seen on the Calumet Sag Channel, but the extra web members are absent, and only the base Pratt diagonals are present. The bracing is extensive in this bridge, but not as much as the Calumet Sag Channel. In particular, the portal bracing is much less massive, and you can see the arched shape above the portal bracing more easilly.
