Although no data could be located, it appears that this bridge was rehabilitated perhaps in the same year at the Jefferson Boulevard Bridge.
This is one of the oldest of the South Bend arch bridges, yet is also one of the least ornamented as well.
The bright white paint on many of the South Bend arch bridges plays havoc on a camera during a sunny day. This bridge, perhaps more than any other, yielded photos in which the sky and background was lit perfectly but the bridge was washed out. The bridge looks like it is part of the pearly gates!
