About Turning the Tide - A Campaign For Change: A Future For Historic Bridges

Could historic bridges across the United States could be saved with a couple paragraphs of text? If the government could be convinced to add and change a couple paragraphs in a piece of legislation called "Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users" this would make a huge difference for the futures of historic bridges across the country. The historic bridge community has been silent long enough. Many people in our nation enjoy historic bridges, either casually or as a real hobby, and are unhappy at the frequent demolition of historic bridges.

The government has openly declared that it will not increase and expand historic bridge preservation funding until it is aware of a public interest. This is where your help is needed. Our government needs to know this is an important issue to the people, not just to the webmaster of a historic bridge website. Even if you are not extremely interested with historic bridges, but just like seeing the quaint, old bridge on your drive to work, I encourage you to help by contacting the involved government officials and legislators who have the power to implement these changes that will bring a future to historic bridges.

Remember, the involvement of all historic bridge enthusiasts as well as people who just enjoy seeing a pretty bridge in a park or on a road is essential to the success of the program. The United States government has made it clear that it will provide this funding, but only when they have been convinced that historic bridges are an issue that the American public has an interest in.

Have You Already Contacted Someone?

If you have already contacted someone listed in the "Your Help Is Needed" page, then please be sure to report it using the tally link below. Turing the Tide would like to maintain a rough estimate of how many people are contacting people so that the we have an idea of how successful the campaign is going, and if we can expect to have any notice taken by government officials. I expect that this tally will show a pretty low number, as word about this project spreads, and as I further develop the page to include such tools as pre-made letter templates, etc.
