The was the first bridge I photographed that was entirely within Kentucky. With that being said, I will point out that the inventories do not appear to show a lot of truss bridges in Kentucky. That means that the ones that remain should be treated with a high level of care, and should be considered historic. Considering that, I was pleased with the good condition this bridge appeared to be in.
This bridge is a substantial structure, and provides a lot of clearance below the bridge, suggesting that perhaps decent sized boats once made their way back here. The bridge features a lot of concrete approach spans on the east (Newport) side of the bridge. The main and interesting part of the bridge however consists of three spans. There is the main warren camelback through truss bridge span. Then on either side of that span a single deck truss span provides a final approach. Connections on the bridge are riveted, and there is extensive v-lacing and lattice on this well-traveled bridge. This bridge can be hard to get photos of it, but if you do some exploring, you can find some unique angles and shots of this bridge.
