Select a county to view the available bridges for that county. A clickable interactive map is available, or you can select a county from the text list to the right of the state overview. On the map, names in blue denote counties that have a page.
Pennsylvania is a major area of coverage for this website, second only to Michigan, with a focus on the western part of the state. The Commonwealth has some of the richest variety and highest quantity of metal truss bridges in the country. Unfortunately, little to no effort is being made to preserve these bridges, even the particularly rare bridges and those for which preservation alternatives are plentiful and feasible, and as such the population of historic bridges is dropping rapidly. No other state in the union has a poorer track record for preserving historic bridges than Pennsylvania. It is hoped that these pages and discussions will raise awareness and HistoricBridges.org would welcome an opportunity to work with PennDOT and other agencies to bring change in historic bridge preservation policy.
