This bridge is a good representative example of a state standard plan steel stringer bridge design that was built in large numbers in Michigan from about 1927 to about 1932. The design is noted for decorative concrete encasement of the outermost fascia beam on the superstructure, and for its concrete balustrade railings. This particular bridge is also noted for its 4.67% grade, which stands out as unusual among the surviving examples of this standard bridge design in Michigan.
