Van Buren County demolished the only bridge in the county on this website at the time, the Red Arrow Highway Bridge, and during the trip to the area when this fact was discovered, a trip down the detour revealed this more significant historic structure. Unfortunately, this structure is also in poor condition, and its plaques have been removed. The ornamental railings that adorned the bridges of this type in Michigan have spalled severely. A posted 54 ton weight limit was posted along with a notice for trucks to go 35 mph. This is something that the trucks do not do! This bridge is on a paved road, but is located in an attractive wooded setting.
Van Buren County Road Commission has chosen to demolish this bridge and replace it with an ugly new bridge that looks like any bridge built in the past 20+ years. The proposed replacement bridge as shown in the bid package is shown below.
