This bridge is a very significant example of early Interstate expressway technology. Although the bridge utilizes one of the simplest forms of bridge type, the steel stringer, this bridge exhibits some unusual design. The structure is heavily skewed, which is somewhat uncommon, but along with that the bridge has a very noticeable curve to it, which is quite uncommon for older overpasses. Both skew and curve, and worse the combination of the two must have kept an engineer busy for quite some time! The bridge is also significant as an old expressway overpass that has not had its original railings modified or replaced. In addition, as a four-lane structure, the bridge is a wide structure, particularly for its age.
