| Dixie Highway Bridge | Dixie Highway Over Unnamed Drain | Birch Run: Saginaw County, Michigan | Concrete Slab, Stationary | 0 By: Unknown |
This bridge is a medium sized example of a small-scale concrete slab structure. Bridges like this were built with frequency in Michigan mostly during the 1930s. As a four-lane structure, this is a fairly wide example of the structure type. The western concrete railing is in much better shape than the eastern one. Structures like these could be thought of as glorified culverts. They look like bridges, but if replaced, will be replaced by a mere corrugated culvert. These bridges are from an era when even the smallest concrete bridges were made to look nice, as is evidenced by the designs in the concrete guardrail. This era is long past in the transportation world.
