This bridge is a good example of Michigan's curved t-beam expressway overpasses, which are interesting because so few expressway structures actually have an attractive architecture and superstructure to them.
The exterior surfaces of this bridge have been painted with an unusual grey with a decorative blue line painted along the deck edge. This unusual attempt at an aesthetic paint job has been done on a few other non-historic expressway overpasses in Michigan, particularly on US-23 where it breaks off of I-75 south of Flint. This paint undoubtedly serves to protect the structure. Whatever the reason for this painting, there was little done in terms of actual repair beyond the paint. This is perhaps for the better, as MDOT would likely have bolted modern guardrails in front of the historic railings if they had done an extensive repair project.
