This bridge is next to the equally significant and impressive Ramsay Bridge. This is one of the largest known stone arch bridges in Michigan, and also is an old structure, dating to 1891. Thus, it is one of Michigan's more important historic bridges. It is most noteworthy for its tall height, which makes it a very impressive structure. It retains excellent historic integrity, and the overall integrity of the structure appears good.
Stone was used a lot on the railroads in this area. If you explore the rail line you may be able to find a number of stone culverts as well, which while not noteworthy enough for their own webpages, are still fun to look at. A few samples are available in this bridge's photo gallery.
