| Stein Road Bridge | Stein Road Over Shebeon Creek | Rural: Huron County, Michigan | Metal Riveted Warren Pony Truss, Stationary | 0 By: Unknown |
Huron County is relatively loaded with truss bridges on private property, and this is one of them. This bridge once spanned Shebeon Creek on Stein Road. At some point in time, the bridge was removed, and a nearby landowner took the bridge and moved it onto their property with the intention of spanning the creek on their property. They were planning on using some old abutments that once held some other unknown previous private bridge. However, disaster struck during the operation. First, someone didn't estimate the sizes correctly, and the bridge didn't quite fit. When they tried to set the bridge back down on the land, the balance on the crane got disoriented, and the bridge crashed into the cab of the crane! Unfortunately, the bridge was slightly twisted from all of this action. Anyhow, long story short, the bridge ended back on the shore where it has remained to this day. In the above photo you can see how the trusses are no longer parallel. There is another couple bridges nearly identical to this bridge on Weale Road.
