This unusual bridge is in function an example of a steel stringer bridge with lattice railings. Such bridges were common for short rural spans prior to 1930. This bridge also features unusual vertical built-up structural steel posts at each end of the railings that extend down to the low concrete abutment. As such, this steel has the appearance of what would be found in a bedstead pony truss. Perhaps the substructure of this bridge, along with these vertical steel elements were all part of a bedstead truss bridge that may have been flooded out, and subsequently replaced with the current stringer structure. At some later date, likely the 1975 rehabilitation date given by the National Bridge Inventory, a retrofit was added to the bridge to give it more support, as seen by the addition of steel bent supports.
