These stone arch spans are all that remain from the bridge that preceded the current Detroit Superior Bridge. They once led up to a swing truss span that crossed the Cuyahoga River. The stone spans have been allowed to stand today for their impressive historic and aesthetic value. Although just approach spans, might as well be consider themselves a large multi-span stone arch bridge that is among the most impressive in Ohio.
