This monstrous bridge is an impressive sight to behold. And indeed, it is an easy one to behold as it passes through a park setting that is dedicated to the Ohio and Erie Canal which flows next to the Cuyahoga River here. The large spans of this bridge are deck truss spans. There are several original, unaltered deck truss spans that follow a modified Warren configuration. There is also a larger, main Warren with verticals deck truss span that is modern and not original. Also a number of the smaller stringer/girder spans feature modern beams that are not original either. However, the steel bents that these spans rest upon are original.
This bridge continues to carry what appears to be a large amount of rail traffic. Two trains were witnessed crossing this bridge on a single brief visit to the bridge.
It is also worth noting that there are two little truss bridges that carry pipelines over the Ohio and Erie Canal next to this bridge. Both are old and feature a through truss design with riveted connections. The blue truss is a Pratt, the grey truss is a Warren with verticals.
