View of plaque on the bridge. Note that the "E" in Commissioner John E. Bush isn't quite straight. My dad long ago worked in a foundry, and he had told me this was because of the way they cast these plaques. There were little letters (like Gutenberg's movable type) that were arranged in a sand compound that was itself in a mold. When the iron was poured, sometimes the letters would move a bit. This problem was apparently called a "core shift."
