Key Facts

Bridge Name Facility Carried / Feature Intersected Location Structure Type Construction Date / Builder or Contractor
3rd Street Bridge 3rd Street Over Thames River Chatham: Chatham-Kent Region, Ontario Metal Through Girder, Movable: Bascule 1962 By: Bridge and Tank Company of Canada

At first glance, this appears to simply be a larger 5th Street Bridge but it is in fact quite a bit newer, although its design is quite similar. It is as a result not as historic, but is still a worthy example of transportation heritage, particularly since it tells of a past era when large boats used the Thames River in this area. The bridge is today inoperative for boats. The structure was built in 1961-1962 by the Bridge and Tank Company of Canada, of Blenheim, Ontario, which is a town located southeast of Chatham.
