| Merrittville Highway Bridge | Merrittville Highway Over Lake Gibson (12 Mile Creek) | Rural: Niagara Region, Ontario | Metal Riveted Warren Pony Truss, Stationary | 0 By: Unknown |
Multi-span pony truss bridges are uncommon, but this two-span pony truss is right around the corner from another multi-span pony truss. The design of this bridge however is nearly identical to a third truss bridge in the area, the Beaverdams Road Bridge.
There is v-lacing on the diagonals and under the top chord and end post. Supports for the bridge appear to be an unusual combination of concrete and steel caisson. Original lattice railings are present on the bridge. There is a concrete t-beam approach span at each end of the bridge. A collapsed concrete road that appears to have led to the preceding structure remains just west of the bridge. A person could walk out on this road and get nice side views of the bridge. There is a sign on this old road alignment that warns people that the sediment in Lake Gibson is polluted and toxic.
