This is a fascinating example of a multi-span plate girder bridge. It has ten spans in all.
The spans, listed from south to north:
1: A through plate girder passing over US-23 Business Loop.
2: A deck plate girder connecting the two through plate girders.
3: A large through plate girder, passing over another railway.
4-10: Deck plate girders passing over the Huron River.
The through plate girder, going over the business loop appears to be newer than the rest of the bridge, likely replaced when the road it passes over was widened.
The deck girder between the two through girders is really similar to the spans over the Huron River. The spans over the Huron River are individually not that much different from the average deck plate girder span. But the fact that there are seven spans, and that the track and bridge is curved going over the river makes this section of the bridge very beautiful and graceful looking.
