Pittsburgh has so many historic bridges, that if I really wanted to thoroughly detail all of them I would have to move there for an extended period of time. As it is, I only managed to get there once on a short vacation. As such, I had to pick and choose favorites. The McKees Rocks Bridge is a bridge that features a variety of spans including beam, cantilever, truss, and arch spans, ends up being about a mile long. I focused my photographing efforts with this bridge on the crescent arch spans over the area known as McKees Rocks Bottoms. The photo shown above on this page is on the crescent arch spans, and is a big zoom on the rest of the bridge, to give you an idea of how many different types of spans there are on this bridge. PGHbridges.com calls this bridge a "pattern book on bridge types" and that could not be closer to the truth.

The crescent arch spans are both beautiful and unusual because of their crescent shape. PGHbridges lists another freestanding crescent arch bridge that is similar to this one in appearance. I had never photographed a bridge that looked like this before however.
