Key Facts |
Bridge Name | Type | Road | Location | City | Crossing |
| P&LE / Big Run Branch Railroad Bridge | Truss | Railroad (Pittsburgh and & Lake Erie) | Lawrence County, PA | New Castle | Shenango River |
Situated on a Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad line, this railroad bridge is a breathtaking pin connected truss bridge, and is very tall. It features an ornate portal bracing design, something not often seen in railroad bridges. I shot only a couple photos of this magnificent bridge from the Mahoning Avenue Viaduct. I wish I had time to find out if this was an "untouchable" bridge or if there was a way to get side views and closer portal views without annoying any railroad owners or other private landowners.
I only have a couple photos of this bridge. Two photos hardly do a 20 foot beam bridge justice, let alone the railroad truss bridge of the century! If anyone has more photos of this bridge that they would be willing to let me post on this website, please feel free to email me them.
