Thanks to Tony Dillon for pointing out that this bridge has a nicer name than CR-800 South Bridge! This bridge is known locally as the Murphy Bridge, and apparently comes from a land owner from long ago.
This is a beautiful 11 panel parker truss with riveted connections, and is seated on concrete abutments. Built in 1928 by the Pan American Bridge Company, it features a beefier design than pin connected designs of this type from decades before. V-lacing and lattice can be found all over this bridge with the exception of the diagonals and bottom chord. Modern double-size Armco railings have replaced any original railings that might have been on this bridge. Illinois stamps can be found on the steel for the bridge. Roller bearings are present at the north end of the structure. The bridge features a wooden deck with an asphalt layer on top, which may have been replaced in the 1977 rehabilitation date given by the Indiana general bridge inventory. I thought a wooden deck seemed out of place on a bridge built during this time period. I would have expected concrete to make up the original deck.
