Adrian and Blissfield Railroad Bridge

Railroad (Adrian and Blissfield)

Lenawee County, MI

Rural

River Raisin

The Raisin River has a couple very interesting deck trusses, this being one and the Southern Michigan Railroad Bridge being the other.

This bridge is a very long deck truss - ten panels in all, and is a pin connected Pratt. The bridge includes a deck plate girder approach at each end. Piers and abutments are stone. V-lacing and lattice is present on various places on the bridge. No plaque has survived on this bridge, so the builder is unknown.

Deck truss bridges are the among most challenging to photograph, and this bridge is no exception. A winter visit when the leaves are off the trees is recommended.

It is interesting to note that there are old concrete abutments next to this bridge. They may be from an old interurban line that ran from Adrian to Blissfield.
