| Indian Creek Railroad Bridge | Truss | Railroad | Chatham-Kent Region | Chatham | Indian Creek |
Due to my somewhat lacking maps of Ontario, and my own ignorance, I had originally assumed that this bridge went over the larger Thames River in the area. When I got home, and looked at what roads I had taken, it turns out this beast of a bridge was actually over Indian Creek, which branches off of Thames River. There is another nearby railroad which does cross Thames River, but I missed visiting it. The third railroad crossing in Chatham, closer to the downtown, also crosses Thames River, but is a plate girder.
This is a nice looking bridge, with large v-lacing on the vertical members, and lattice on the sway and cross diagonal bracing. Select spots on the bridge have been repaired, with bolts and new pieces of steel. The bridge carries two sets of railroad tracks, and is frequently used by trains.
