Demolition Video

I have a short video of this bridge actually being knocked down into the river. The movie is in the Windows Media Video format, so if you have a fairly recent version of Windows Media Player it should work. The file is 2.46mb in size. I recommend right-clicking on the link below and choosing "Save Target As" and saving it to your desktop, so that you can play it without having to try to stream the video.

Church Road Bridge Demolition Video

This video is rated "R" for extreme violence toward truss bridges... viewer discretion is advised. Historic bridges were harmed in the making of this film.

Nothing but dumpster material now...

Some of the deck and guardrails have been removed here.

Reflection of bridge deck in the water.

Removing the last part of the deck.

Trying to loosen the bridge to attempt to lift it.

A pile of deck.

.

Removing deck i-beams.

Attempting to lift the bridge off the abutments. The bridge was to heavy to lift.

Beginning to remove sway bracing.

The portal bracing comes down.

Some deer in the distance get their last look at the bridge.

Looks like a tall pony truss for its last few seconds of standing existence.

The Church Road Bridge demolition was a matter of life and death for this Robin's babies who were inside the top chord when the bridge was knocked down.

The top chord is lifted out of the river.

That's me standing there...

Lifting the center of the deck out.
