Macon Creek North Branch |
I found a number of small Pratt half-hip pin connected pony trusses in western Monroe County, all closed to traffic. This example was built in 1910, according to the historic bridge inventory, and retains original lattice guardrails. V-lacing is on vertical members. The deck is wooden. This bridge is very overgrown, and a winter visit is recommended. The southwest endpost of the bridge has a small tree growing through it! The tree starts on the ground outside the bridge, passes up inside the endposts, through a part of the lattice railings, and up toward the light above bridge! It sits on cut stone abutments. This bridge has not been maintained for a long time, and as a result has put this bridge in danger of collapse. The floor and deck beams on this bridge are in bad shape, a condition shared with the other Monroe County bridges in this area. I wonder if perhaps Macon Creek floods in the spring and is deteriorating the bridges.
