This is an attractive 1930s warren pony truss, which carries a lot of traffic. Kings Highway 20 appears to be the old highway into Niagara Falls, and is still used a lot today. When the nearby KH-20 Vertical Lift Bridge went up for a freighter, the cars backed up across this bridge and up the the hill. The bridge itself is a two lane bridge, with cantilevered sidewalks on each side. There are no guardrails for the cars, which I have found on a number of Ontario bridges in this area. I assume that is how the bridges were originally built, and Ontario is nice enough to maintain the bridge's historic integrity. You don't get this sort of treatment in Michigan, that's for sure! The deck of the bridge is concrete, and may have been redone. The trusses have a short appearance, similar to the demolished Nicol Road Bridge back in Michigan. The KH-20 Truss Bridge has v-lacing on vertical members, but not on the diagonals. Original lattice guardrail is on the sidewalks. The connections on the bridge are riveted. The bridge is due for a paint job, as rust is starting to peak through. The KH-21 Bridge was in similar condition, and it was repainted in fall of 2004. Hopefully this bridge will be painted soon as well. Being in sight of the vertical lift bridge, this truss bridge is a rare example of a truss bridge that is within sight of another truss bridge.
