Kimpton Road

Monroe County, MI

Macon Creek South Branch

Of the several half-hip Pratt pin connected pony trusses I found in western Monroe County, this bridge was in the best condition, was the easiest to photograph, and was likely the last to close to traffic. It is certainly the most restorable of them all, and it deserves to be. Its small size would make it a cheap bridge to restore. This bridge has v-lacing under the top chord and on vertical members. This three panel bridge has a wooden deck and sits on very tall concrete abutments. Original lattice guardrails survive on the bridge. The default 1900 date is listed in the historic bridge inventory suggesting an unknown construction date. Since this bridge is in decent condition, it would be great to see this bridge restored where it sits for light vehicular traffic. As it sits however, it is in danger, since nobody is taking care of it. This is a very beautiful bridge, and although Michigan has started to restore a few of its larger through and pony truss bridges, far too many of the smaller pony trusses are ignored. This is surprising to me, because smaller bridges cost less to restore.

This bridge, unlike the other Monroe County truss bridges, takes good photos in the summer as well as the winter. I got lots of good photos from both seasons. You will find more photos for this bridge than the other Monroe County truss bridges.
