St. Joseph County, MI

Rural (Near Centreville)

St. Joseph River

This bridge is built to the same plan at the bridge in New Boston. This M-86 Bridge does not retain its railings, but it does retain a plaque on it. This is not the original plaque, however. It is a plaque that was put on when this bridge was moved from some other unknown location to its current location in 1939. The bridge was actually built in 1923. The bridge is a camelback warren pony truss with riveted connections. The bridge is in great condition with no weight limit and a fairly recent coat of white paint on it. Rust is popping up in a few spots though, and a touch-up may be needed in a few years. Original railings do not remain on the bridge, although the original brackets are still there. There is also a strange series of brackets running on the outside of the south side of this bridge. Perhaps this bridge once carried a pipe of some sort. Maybe its original location was in a city, where you find pipes running alongside bridges more often.
