Connection. Someone painted the directions on the bridge. Not sure why.
The deck was in bad shape, as this image shows. The deck i-beams, which were inside the deck's concrete, were also probably not in top shape.
This image contrasts the deck and deck i-beams to the main i-beams of the truss bridge. Note the bad deck structures. Then note that the main truss bridge i-beams were in beautiful condition. They were rusted, but there was no deterioration from that rust. Other bridges, like Card Road Bridge, have rusted to the point where they have holes in them. Nicol Road Bridge did not need to be replaced. All it needed was a new deck.
This visit was in April of 2005, about a week before demolition commenced.
