Rockwood Railroad Bridge Truss Railroad (Norfolk Southern) Wayne County, MI Rockwood Huron River

This bridge is painted red, which is a pleasant departure from the railroad standard black paint that is usually seen. The portal bracing is not the oddest thing ever seen, but it is not common looking either. I liked the portal bracing design either way, with its slightly star-like appearance. This bridge is a Baltimore through truss with riveted connections and two small deck plate girder approaches. The deck plate girders are a bit different looking from the average deck plate girder... they are not very long (and as a result not very large), and as a result, almost look like beam bridges with rivets on the side. There is lots of lattice on the truss span, on vertical members, under the top chord, and on the bracing. The only place v-lacing is present is on the bottom chord. The bridge has five panels. The bridge looks like it was originally sitting on stone piers and abutments, which were repaired with concrete.
