Spring Creek Bridge Truss River Road Elk County, PA Hallton (Rural) Spring Creek

The only thing that Pennsylvania and Preservation have in common is the same first letter!

This bridge survived the 2004 truss bridge armageddon that occurred in Elk County as the great Shanley Road Bridge and the Arroyo Road Bridge were demolished. But this bridge is also on the doomed list, and after seeing what Elk County did to those nearby truss bridges, I am sure they won't even blink an eye before tearing this one down. This bridge is interesting because of the twisted iron design that is used on both portal and sway bracing on this bridge. In addition, the portal bracing is designed so that it looks like the lattice is peeking out beyond the top of the portal bracing. I have never seen these ideas used on any other truss bridges, so I would consider this quite a unique bridge because of those details. The details really make this bridge look different, as well as beautiful.
