Bridges like this one were once the mainstay for crossing small obstacles in the late 1800s and early 1900s. They used to be as common as those ugly slabs of concrete that are built today are. However, thanks to those same slabs, quaint little bridges such  as this one are disappearing from the American landscape. In our recognition of those bridges which are large, old, or otherwise highly significant, we must not forget that these smaller bridges are also attractive and tell a story about our transportation heritage. In addition, small bridges such as this are easier to preserve, and relocate if needed. As such, the preservation of at least some of these surviving small truss bridges should be considered.
